Historical and Architectural Preservation Credit (CHAP) is a property tax for homeowners and businesses making substantive rehabilitation on projects in historic neighborhoods. It is stackable with other credits and transferable.
CHAP is a 10-year tax credit on the increased assessment directly resulting from qualifying improvements. The credit for projects with construction costs less than $3.5 million is 100 percent, and for projects more than $3.5 million in construction costs, it is 80 percent. All work must be approved by Enterprise Zone administrators.
